Product Information

The Vintage Sofa Company Governor Armchair is upholstered in a vibrant Patchwork fabric with tan leather accents and brass stud detailing

Description

Rather than relying on one uniform fabric, the Governor uses patchwork to give the chair much more depth and variation. Checks, tweeds, velvets and textured weaves are brought together in a warmer, earthier palette, so the overall effect feels rich and interesting without becoming harsh. It has the kind of surface detail that makes the chair stand out, but still feels grounded enough to live with every day.

Tan leather on the arms and outer panels plays an important part in that balance. It gives the shape more definition, adds durability in the areas that take the most contact and stops the patchwork from feeling too soft or overdone. Brass studwork reinforces the outline again, giving the chair a more traditional furniture finish rather than making it feel purely decorative.

Its proportions also matter. The Governor is compact enough to place easily in a bedroom, study, reading corner or smaller living space, but it still has the look of a proper armchair rather than a lightweight accent seat. The higher back, cushioned seat and solid wooden legs help it feel supportive and settled in the room.

Made by Vintage Sofa Company, this is a piece for buyers who want more than a plain upholstered chair. It brings colour, texture and a recognisable sense of craftsmanship, while still offering the comfort and practicality expected from an everyday armchair.

PLEASE NOTE - Image is for illustration purposes and each chair will feature a unique patchwork pattern and mix of fabrics

FAQ's

Will the patchwork on my Governor armchair look exactly like the one shown?

Not exactly. Chairs like this are valued for their individuality, so the arrangement of fabrics can vary from piece to piece. The overall look stays true to the design, but the exact placement of colours and textures may differ.

Does the patchwork feel bright in person, or more muted?

This version leans warmer and earthier rather than loud. It uses a mix of richer and softer tones, so the chair has colour and personality, but still feels usable in a settled interior rather than overly playful.

Are the tan leather sections full arm panels or just trim?

They are more than just edging. The leather gives the arms and outer sections a stronger outline, which helps the chair feel more structured and adds contrast against the patchwork upholstery.

Is the Governor more upright than a lounge chair?

Yes. Its proportions are more compact and supportive than a deep lounging chair, which makes it better suited to reading, conversation and everyday sitting rather than sprawling back into a more relaxed seat.

What does the buttoning change on a patchwork chair like this?

It gives the upholstery more order. On a mixed-fabric design, buttoning helps break up the surface so the different panels feel intentional and shaped, rather than just decorative.

Would this work better as a single feature chair than in a pair?

In most rooms, yes. The Governor has enough detail and character to carry a space on its own, so it is especially effective as a single chair paired with calmer upholstery nearby.

Does the smaller footprint make it easier to place than other patchwork armchairs?

Yes. At 70cm wide and 70cm deep, it is easier to work into bedrooms, studies, corners and smaller sitting areas than a bulkier statement chair, while still giving you the visual impact of patchwork upholstery.

How does the Governor differ from a more traditional plain leather or tweed armchair?

It keeps the familiar structure of a classic armchair, but the patchwork gives it much more movement and personality. It feels less formal than a full leather chair and less predictable than a plain tweed one, while still keeping a traditional furniture shape.
