Alexander & James is an extraordinary sofa company entrenched in British furniture traditions. Founded by Mark -Alexander- Smith and furniture design connoisseur David -James- Lee. The company has designed and crafted quality pieces for over 120 years. When the trailblazing pair embarked on their lifelong mission, they did so in hope that they would one day manufacture exceptional interior pieces. The pieces were to be rooted in British heritage and uncompromising of comfort and beauty.

Together with their accomplished team of experts, Mark & David worked tirelessly. The late nights were finally rewarded. Their pieces marvelled by all. Once the designs are complete, the team sets out to realise their vision. Master craftsmen utilise traditional handcrafting techniques and undergo rigorous processes to ensure high standards are met. Before leaving the purpose-built facility in Thailand, they must first pass inspection. Production experts check and review each piece to the fullest.

Sustainable Timbers

Alexander & James sofa frames are made from rubberwood, a robust and ethically sourced timber. Rubberwood is a hardwood with a medium density. They are sturdy, strong and great to work with. Rubberwood timber has many uses throughout its life. During its adolescent stage, rubberwood produces a natural latex. Their latex is used worldwide for rubber-based products. At 26-30 years old, the trees reach their maturity and stop producing latex. From here, they are cut down for industrial use.

Alexander back their rubberwood sofas with an impressive 10-year guarantee. All wooden legs are hand-turned from solid wood and come in a range of classic finishes too. Choose from a variety of weathered, glazes, and dark wax finishes.

Filling

Alexander and James incorporate a divine mix of feather, foam, and fibre filling in their seats. Together with soft heavenly comfort, the filling provides ample support. They begin with a core layer of foam, which is wrapped in feather, fibre, or both. Alexander and James use duck feathers. This is because of their natural curvature, which inhibits them from lying flat, leaving your seats plump for longer.
