The Ellis brings together Hunting Lodge Harris Tweed, warm tan leather and a neatly shaped winged silhouette in a two-seat sofa that feels classic without becoming heavy. Studded detailing, rolled arms and turned legs give it a tailored, heritage-led finish, while the softer tweed tones keep the overall look calm and easy to place.

Product Information

Vintage Sofa Company Ellis 2 Seater Sofa Upholstered in Hunting Lodge Harris Tweed Fabric with Tan Leather Trim and brass stud detailing

Description

What gives the Ellis its appeal is the way it handles traditional materials with a lighter touch. Rather than feeling dark or overly formal, the Hunting Lodge Harris Tweed brings a softer, more natural texture to the frame, with a subtle herringbone weave that adds depth without making the sofa feel busy. It has the kind of surface character that makes a room feel more considered, even before you start layering in other furniture.

The tan leather shifts the mood again. Used across the wings, arms and lower front rail, it outlines the shape of the sofa and gives the design more definition than a fully upholstered version. That contrast is important here. It sharpens the profile, draws attention to the curved wingback and rolled arms, and gives the Ellis a more tailored finish than a standard compact two-seater.

There is also a nice balance between presence and restraint. The winged back gives the sofa more character than a plain straight-backed design, while the tweed keeps it grounded and the leather stops it from feeling too soft around the edges. Brass stud detailing and turned wooden legs with castors reinforce the traditional furniture influence, but the overall effect is still clean rather than overly decorative.

Made by Vintage Sofa Company, the Ellis works particularly well in rooms where texture matters as much as scale. It suits smaller sitting rooms, studies, reading spaces and more considered living areas where a larger sofa would feel bulky, but a plain two-seater would not bring enough shape or finish. It is compact, but it does not feel slight.

FAQ's

What gives the Ellis a different feel from a standard two-seat sofa?

The main difference is in the shape and material combination. The winged back, leather-trimmed arms and Harris Tweed upholstery give it far more character than a plain compact sofa, so it feels like a considered furniture piece rather than just a smaller seating option.

What is the effect of the Hunting Lodge Harris Tweed on this design?

It gives the sofa a softer, more grounded look than a flatter plain fabric. The herringbone weave adds quiet texture and helps the Ellis feel rooted in traditional upholstery, but without the heaviness that some darker heritage fabrics can bring.

Why does this sofa use leather on the wings and arms?

The leather helps define the outline of the sofa and adds warmth against the tweed. It also highlights the curved wingback shape more clearly, which is one of the details that makes the Ellis visually distinctive.

Does the winged back change the comfort of the sofa, or is it mainly decorative?

It does both jobs. Visually, it gives the sofa more presence and a more architectural shape. Practically, it makes the back feel more enclosing and supportive than a flatter, more open-backed two-seater.

Do the castors make the Ellis feel more traditional?

Yes, they are a small detail but an important one. They give the sofa a more classic furniture character and work particularly well with the tweed, leather and turned legs, helping the overall design feel more complete.

Would this sofa suit only country-style interiors?

No. It works naturally in country and heritage-led spaces, but the restrained palette and clean shaping also make it suitable for more mixed interiors that combine traditional texture with simpler modern pieces.

How does the Ellis compare visually with a full leather sofa?

It feels softer and more relaxed. The leather still gives it definition and warmth, but the Harris Tweed stops the overall look from becoming too club-like or heavy, which makes it easier to place in lighter interiors.

What does Vintage Sofa Company bring to a design like this?

Vintage Sofa Company brings the upholstery detail and shaping that make a sofa like the Ellis feel convincing. On a piece that depends on tweed texture, leather contrast, studwork and a winged profile, proportion and finish matter just as much as the materials themselves.
